THE LAST MONTH OF SCHOOL! How in the world is it possibly June??
We have a lot to finish up in our curriculum, and a lot of fun to look forward to this month!
We have our movie reward trip on June 11th. This is a very exciting FREE trip, everyone is reminded to please eat a large breakfast as food will not be allowed to be brought to the theater. No cafeteria orders that day either.
Please note that all Library books need to be returned by June 12th. The last day for cafeteria orders will be June 21st.
Field Day will be June 24th, with the rain date the next day.
There is no school for students on June 27th and the last day of school is June 28th !!
Math homework will continue for the next couple weeks, and home reading should continue until the end of the year, and even through the summer!!
And just like that, March is gone! Hopefully everyone had a restful and fun March Break. We are now in the "crunch time" for term 3. We are moving closer toward becoming grade 4's and grade 5's! Please remember to still be wearing outdoor footwear and make sure that students have indoor shoes for school. This works best if they are not a pair that travels home and back again, but rather stays at school as the traveling ones get wet and messy.
In math, we are wrapping up multiplication and division and will be moving into geometry next.
We are researching and doing some non-fiction writing.
We are exploring media and advertising in health.
In social studies, Grade 3's are learning about Nova Scotia cultures and will be moving into learning about citizenship. Grade 4's are exploring physical features of our world and will be moving into (the basics of) the political landscape of Canada.
In Science, Grade 4's are exploring habitats and will be connecting that into learning about rocks & minerals next. Grade 3's have finished up learning about magnets and will be exploring plants and soils next.
In art, we are constantly exploring and creating lots of different kinds of art, that is all being saved in students' art boxes which will come home in a few short months at the end of the year, to show off all the masterpieces!
February went by like a flash! We have been working on finishing up our term 2 topics and units. We have spent the bulk of term 2 working on addition and subtraction, and are beginning to move into new math units - multiplication and division (basic intro for grade 3, and 1-digit by 1-, 2-, and 3-digit numbers for grade 4). Practicing facts at home for the grade 4's should be a focus.
We are working on informational (non fiction) writing. We have focused on a few important people in the month of February, learning facts about them and composing that into an information piece of writing. We will be discussing the different aspects of other types of non fiction writing now!
Students will soon be coming home with Term 2 math work, as well as clearing out finished pieces from their writing folder as these get full quickly!
Looking ahead in March we have a spirit week and march break coming up. Check out the calendar page for March's events.
As a reminder, Class Dojo is updated more frequently than this website, and a great way to contact me as well.
January was a long month of hard work and cold inside days. Here's to a short month with hopefully lots of outside play time! We have been working hard on addition and subtraction. We will be moving into using both in word problems next week. Subtraction is always harder so please make sure students are practicing.
Parent people can ask grade 4's all about light: how it travels, how we see objects, how shadows work, and even how we see colours of the rainbow!
Parent people of grade 3's can ask them all about magnets: what does repel mean? Attract? Why do magnets attract or repel? What are the 2 important sides of the magnet and how does a compass work?
Please remember to be reading every night (or as many nights as possible - you can always read extra on another night if you miss one). RED folders are due every Wednesday, along with math homework.
Welcome back!!! Hopefully everyone had a relaxing and enjoyable break. We are back and ready to start a full month of hard work!
Please remember that indoor shoes are a must especially this time of year with the weather.
Paper homework will be starting back up on Wednesday, January 9th and will continue as before, due the next Weds.
Students should still be reading as many nights as possible, and practicing spelling words. If you have lost the list of spelling words, I have placed a link to it below.
November: We had a very quick and busy October, and are ready for this beautiful, jam-packed November! This month we have Remembrance Day, an Assessment Day, and Crazy Hat Day. Please check the calendar here on my website for upcoming dates. Wednesday, November 7th will be our Rememrance Day ceremony at school. We encourage any members of Guiding or Scouting to proudly wear their uniform on this day. If your child has a poppy to wear that's great, but we will have extras as well. Class photos will be the next day on November 8th.
Grade 3's have been working on Materials and Structures in Science. We are beginning building our own structures, now that we have learned so much about how they work! Stay tuned for pictures / updates.
Grade 4's have been working on our Sound unit in Science, a new project went home to build a musical instrument, that is due November 19th.
In Math, we are all now working on different aspects and types of patterns, moving forward into Time concepts, as well as Data Management (Graphing).
As a reminder - Class Dojo is where I update more frequenctly about our class. Please check in there or sign up if you haven't!
We have had a very busy September. With October comes the beginning of our "other" homework (please keep up with your RED Folders), a few "dress up" days (Orange Shirt Day today, Green Day for C.P. on Friday, and of course - Halloween), and a few days off for students. We have a PD day, Provincial Conference Day, and of course, Thanksgiving. Please make sure to check these dates on our calendar or the school's. We also have the grade 4 trip coming up on October 11th. Please send in forms and money if you haven't yet.
As the weather starts getting cooler, and maybe more wet, please remember to be coming dressed in proper clothing, including outdoor footwear.
We are using Class Dojo this year! If you haven't signed up for a parent account, please do so with the code sent home on Friday. If you have lost the code, please let me know and I can re send it to you. Multiple parent emails can be connected as separate accounts to the same student, using the same code.
You will be able to see points students are earning in class, see class posts, and communicate with me directly.
We have about half of our parents signed up right now so please do so if you haven't already! Thanks if you have!
